Riding a Motorcycle

The requirements needed to ride a motorcycle

There are certain legal requirements to be eligible to ride a motorcycle. At York Motorcycle Training, we can train you to ride a motorcycle and prepare you for the licence test as well.

At the age of 16

At the age of 16, if you hold a valid CBT certificate, you're allowed to ride a 50cc moped with L-plates on the vehicle. We offer motorbike riding courses and brief you about the highway code to enable you to gain your CBT certificate.
About CBT

At the age of 17 and above

At the age of 17, you can hold a provisional licence to ride motorbikes of up to 125cc but cannot have any passengers or use the motorway. You can practise unaccompanied on the motorbike only if you've completed the CBT courses.

If you've passed a car test before February 2001, it entitles you to ride a moped without L-plates and without completing a CBT, you can also carry a passenger. For more information on the licensing process or for details on our motorbike training courses in North Yorkshire, contact us today!

Did my CBT, Mod 1 and Mod 2 training with them. Highly recommended, friendly and professional. Clear easy to follow instructions which will stay with me for life. Nice bikes to learn on too.
